Sentenced to twenty-eight days detention in Malta's notorious Corradino Military prison, Royal marine Corporal Peter Hawkes senses his career is in ruins.
Hawke had been awarded the Military Medal for gallantry during his unit's two year deployment in Malaya fighting the communist Terrorist.
His fall from grace was as a result of an affair with a young and attractive RAF Squadron Leader's wife. Having discovered the lovers together, the officer had struck his wife, which resulted in Hawke punching the man to the ground and being charged with assault.
In the subsequent Court Martial the young marine's good record saved him from dismissal from the service, but in spite of this Hawke considered his career finished.
Shortly before the completion of his sentence, Hawke is visited by a civilian who says he could offer him government employment in an unusual role. Noting the marine's interest the man returns a few days later with his superior, who repeats the offer. Hawke accepts, asking what his role would be.
Surprised at the man's response, Hawke confirms his interest and begins a five year adventure, which takes around the world and into some very dangerous situations, placing his very life at risk.
Crown assassin is the former Royal marine, Peter J Foot'’s fifth novel, all of which have featured his beloved Corps.
